Tamara in the Green Bugatti, Tamara de Lempicka, 1928.
The most famous painting by Tamara de Lempicka. Painted with oil on a small 35 x 27 cm board, it has become an iconic representation of the modern woman of the 1920s.
The artist exudes alabaster skin and a statuesque profile, reminiscent of ancient Greek sculptures. This association is reinforced by the abundance of bright, almost monochromatic elements: a fleshy glove, a small beige-gray pilot cap, and a casually draped scarf, all in the same shade.
In the lower part of the painting, the artist's signature stood out, stylized like a modern, geometric logo. The letters TJL, framed in a rectangle, formed the abbreviated signature "Tamara Junosza Lempicka." Although she usually placed the surname "de Lempicka" on her works, this time she additionally referenced the Junosza coat of arms, belonging to her husband, Tadeusz Lempicki.
