Tamara de Lempicka

I was the first woman to paint cleanly, and that was the basis of my success. From a hundred pictures, mine will always stand out. And so the galleries began to hang my work in their best rooms, always in the middle, because my painting was attractive. It was precise. It was 'finished'.

Known as the Baroness with a brush, she was one of the most influential and esteemed painters of her time. Her work is the quintessence of the art deco style in painting. She primarily painted nudes and portraits, focusing mainly on beautiful and affluent individuals.

The artist is an absolute record-holder in art auctions. Tamara Łempicka's portrait of Marjorie Ferry is the most expensive painting ever created by a Polish artist. In 2020, the artwork set a record, selling for over $21.1 million at an auction at Christie’s in London.

It beat out her previous record, set only three months ago when La Tunique Rose (1927) sold for $13.3 million at a Sotheby’s sale in New York.

Her artworks are in the collections of such stars as Madonna, Barbra Streisand and Jack Nicholson.
